HARRISBURG – Rep. Tim O’Neal (R-Washington) today issued the following statement in response to the House passing of
House Bill 1788, a mass transit funding plan:
“The transit funding legislation passed today by House Democrats is just another act of political theater.
“Amid a month-long budget impasse, Democrats moved to take hundreds of millions more in state money and send it to save Philadelphia’s failing public transit system. These are taxpayer dollars meant to help all Pennsylvanians, not just those in one city.
“It has been a month without a state budget and across Pennsylvania, roads are in need of repair, schools are desperate for funding, and many local services are beginning to feel the brunt of the lack of state resources. Yet, instead of coming to the table and negotiating a state budget for ALL of Pennsylvania, Democrats are focusing on only their constituents in the city of Philadelphia.
“Today’s vote was nothing more than politics at its worst. As legislators, we should be focused on negotiating a budget that will responsibly and fully fund the critical state services across all of Pennsylvania.”
