The 101st Annual Pennsylvania Farm Show is ongoing this week in Harrisburg with record crowds expected to be on hand to view the largest agricultural exposition on the east coast. The event showcases Pennsylvania’s largest production industry – agriculture, and offers hundreds of farmers and others involved in agriculture an opportunity to exhibit their products and compete for prizes. Rep. Mark Gillen (R-Berks & Lancaster) attended this year’s week long show to speak with and visit people from his legislative district involved in exhibits and competitions.

The Pennsylvania House opened its 201st legislative session Tuesday in Harrisburg, highlighted by the swearing in of new members, including Rep. Michael Corr (R-Montgomery), who begins his tenure serving the people of the 150th legislative district in Montgomery County. Corr expressed his feelings as he took the oath of office, and outlined his approach to service and legislative goals.

The 2017-18 Session of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives opened Tuesday with the election of Rep. Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) as speaker after 200 members of the General Assembly took their oaths of office. The House also adopted a set of rules governing how the body will operate. The new session will bring a 121 member Republican majority to the House, the largest single party majority in decades. In House floor comments following his election, Speaker Turzai called for bipartisan cooperation on the crucial legislative issues expected to face lawmakers in the new session including jobs, improving schools and the restructuring of state government.
